Dolores Kahn

Dolores “Petsy” Kahn was 75 when she was first diagnosed with colon cancer in 2005. A few months later, rather than take a trip to Sweden that she had been looking forward to with her husband, she had the tumor removed. A year and a half later, the cancer returned and she has had chemotherapy and radiation treatments, which she did not have prior to her first operation. She decided not to let her treatment for colon cancer affect her love of travel, and has been to Hawaii, Mt. Rainier, and the Grand Canyon. During her trips, she came to see that having an ostomy bag “was not a problem but a convenience because I could do all the things that I did before my cancer.”

Dolores has received treatment at Southwest Washington Memorial Hospital in Vancouver, WA. She is now in her fifth year of being cancer free. The most important thing that that has helped her fight colon cancer is her family and friends. When asked, what others can learn from her experience, she answered: “There is life after cancer and it can be very good.”
