Andy Breidenbach

At age 50, Andy Breidenbach’s first colonoscopy showed one polyp that was not cancerous. Three years later, another colonscopy showed no polyps, but his appendix was enlarged. A CT scan showed something growing in his appendix. Andy elected to have surgery to remove his appendix, as well as part of his cecum, lymph nodes and ten inches of colon. The end result was great news – no cancer. In Andy’s words, “Knowing I’m clear is a great relief!”

During his recent surgery, Andy received treatment at The Polyclinic as well as Swedish Hospital. He knows the value of routine screening at the appropriate age, even without a family history of cancer. When asked what he thought others could learn from your experience, Andy said he would like others to know, “The screening is painless and can discover more than just colon cancer.”
